            BREEZY HILL FARM WEEKLY UPDATE

  • Anyone want some guinea eggs to incubate?  Maybe you have a hen starting to set and you could get a bunch of guineas to help with tick and bug control.  And they are fun to watch.  We will have plenty just let me know how many and we can save them for you.
  • Our beef schedule took a hit recently with the unusually cold weather and the almost 7 inches of rain in a weeks time.  We have stopped feeding hay as the grasses have begun to outpace their appetites.  We will be weighing them in about a week, and then we will have a much better idea as to our schedule for this Springs harvest.  We have several harvest dates reserved for June, but if we have some ready earlier I will lobby for a single one.
  • Gardening is in full swing.  The green house is working great with new plants, and we are starting to move them to the raised beds.  Raised beds are being topped off with additional planting medium.   The drip lines have all been checked and replaced as necessary.  Potatoes and corn will get planted tomorrow.
  • Purple martins are back and it's great to have them back.  We added several new gourds for this year and some are starting to claim them.
  • We have several new calves and I wish everyone could watch them play and explore their new world.  Diba our puppy, that is now a full grown Anatolian Sheppard is learning or better said  displaying her innate herd instincts.  It is amazing to watch her bred in genes slowly be manifest.
  • I am in the middle of renovating my pastures.  They really need it this year due to the excessive rains we had.  It is so dry now that some areas will need to wait for a little rain.  The traffic areas are especially a problem.
