Breezy Hill Update 102812

Posted 10/28/2012 10:16pm by Art Ozias.
  • We have a new addition to the family.  Yes, a baby.   Her name is Sophie and she is a Great Pyrenees.  She "replaces" Lucy.  Lucy was one of a kind.  Still miss her.
  • Those on the list for a "Dirt" hog will be getting an email this week.  Not sure which day, as I must coordinate with the processor tomorrow.
  • Only twelve chickens left.
  • I am still waiting on some beef deposits.  Remember, your beef is not reserved until I have the deposit.  Federal law, I must sell you a live animal.
  • I very seldom put political signs on my property, but I did this weekend.  One guy is in favor of CAFO's and the other one  not.  If you live in town, it doesn't make any difference. If you live in a rural area and have one built next to you, it's the kiss of death especially if it is upwind.
  • For some the flu season is coming.  This may be of help for those.

Here is an interesting video from  Science Friday.  I  love that program on NPR.  Sure hope NPR is on the air next year.

There are only 10 days left until election day and the fight for GMO labeling needs your help today! On November 6, Californians will make an historic vote on Prop 37 to label genetically modified foods and we need your help to win!

Right now Monsanto, DuPont and giant pesticide companies are bombarding the airways in California with deceptive ads trying to confuse California voters. They're spending $1 million dollars a day to defeat Prop 37 and GMO labeling.

I know it is not easy, but as with most things, do in moderation. Not six hours a day!!!!

    Why organic?

Good independent research by Iowa State, but will anyone read it.  It was in the New York Times, but I doubt it will make it to your local rag.  Here it is.

It's estimated that one Indian farmer now commits suicide every 30 minutes. Most end their lives by drinking pesticide. Wow, what an indictment for GMO’s.

that's it from the hill for this week.  Art and Debra
